All UT Health students as well as interns, residents and fellows are eligible to enter.
Previously unpublished essays (up to 2500 words) in broad areas related to the history of the health sciences or the history of any health science profession are eligible for submission.
The contest is sponsored by the Friends of the P.I.Nixon Medical Historical Library in memory of Danny Jones, MLS, former Head of Special Collections at the UT Health Briscoe Library and Past President of the Friends.

You may remember Starletta creator and physician-artist Miguel Vazquez from his appearance during Student Appreciation Week last fall. He’s back this month with The Art of Heart, an expanded exhibit of his work featuring his own perspectives on the heart and its design. In addition to heart subject matter, the exhibit of both 2-D and 3-D work will incorporate human skulls and animal (trophy head) anatomy reflecting a variety of cultural influences.
Dr. Vazquez, shown above in his workshop, works in a number of mediums including leather. Below is one of his leather creations in its early stages and which will now be on display in the Briscoe library.

Bates’ Visual Guide to Examination delivers 18 clinical skills videos featuring head-to-toe and systems-based physical examination techniques, as well as 15 OSCE clinical reasoning modules. Bates’ is available through institutional access (no sign-in needed) and can be shared by copying/pasting direct urls into syllabi and lectures.

Bates’ Visual Guide to Examination, now available through the library database page, was offered as a trial during the fall of 2018. Thanks to the numerous faculty members willing to test the resource, the library was able to begin a subscription on January 1, 2019.
To support our faculty’s research efforts, Briscoe Library has added an additional feature to our monthly newsletter. You are now able to view citations and link to articles from our UT Health Faculty Publications list. As an added feature, altmetric information is also included. This list is produced monthly by our Library Liaison group who can also provide further assistance with scholarly publication efforts. If you do not see your publication listed, you can provide us with the proper citation information by completing this form.
