News From the Libraries: About the Newsletter

About the Newsletter

Welcome to News from the Libraries, the newsletter of the UT Health San Antonio Libraries!

Each month, we offer news and feature stories to help the UT Health San Antonio community stay current with what’s happening in your Libraries – the Dolph Briscoe Jr. Library and the P.I. Nixon Medical Historical Library. Throughout the year, you’ll see:

  • features about the hundreds of digital resources we license and our unique special and archival collections;
  • articles on scholarly communication and publishing topics, including transformative agreements, known as Read & Publish agreements, and on related topics such as open access, open educational resources, data management, research impact, and more;
  • news about the latest tools, services, and resources for expert searching, research support, and scholarly writing;
  • information about library events, programs, exhibits, and displays;
  • descriptions of our services and service policies;
  • updates about enhancements to our library spaces and furnishings; and
  • news about library staff and their professional activities.

As we move forward with the merger and integration of UTSA and UT Health San Antonio, we will share updates about the integration of the libraries and what it means for our students, faculty, staff, and residents.

Our primary goal is to engage and communicate with those we serve daily, keeping you informed so you can thrive in your academic, research, and clinical roles. We strive to make the library a welcoming, comfortable, and safe space for all members of the UT Health San Antonio community by providing both digital resources AND a place to explore, discover, research, reflect, contemplate, teach, learn, and create!

In the classroom and in clinical settings, students learn from our world-class faculty and clinicians. Outside the classroom and clinical settings, the library is the place where UT Health San Antonio students spend the most time on their academic endeavors, studies, and research. They come to consult with a librarian or staff member, to read, complete course assignments, to work or study alone and in groups, and to socialize with fellow students.

Our hope is that this newsletter will offer a glimpse of all the resources, services, and programs the UTHSA Libraries offer and that you find our posts informative and inspiring.

We welcome your feedback and suggestions. Please email Pat Hawthorne, Executive Director of Libraries, at hawthorne@uthscsa.edu to share your ideas, offer comments, or ask questions at any time. We hope you’ll become a regular reader!
