Image of Research Photography Competition

Briscoe Library has launched a new photography competition called Image of Research. This competition is an opportunity for UT Health San Antonio students, residents, and fellows from all five schools to capture, share, and present the essence of their research in a single visual image. The competition and its accompanying exhibition showcase students’ creative visual conceptualization of their research.

The Image of Research competition is put on by libraries in colleges and universities all over the world, including Kansas University, University of Illinois at Chicago, University of Alberta, and University of Leicester.

Briscoe Library’s Image of Research competition is currently accepting submissions now through September 21, 2018. As submissions are received, they will be printed and displayed throughout the library. There will be cash prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place as well as an Interprofessional Education award. Awards will be presented during a ceremony and reception in the Fall.

Student Fiesta Fun!

On April 24th, UT Health students got to have some fun with their own Fiesta! Sponsored by the Library, students took part in a Fiesta photo wall, coloring portions of a super-sized fiesta-themed poster, painting, and making fiesta flowers. There were also two therapy dogs on site.

Later in the day, the P.I. Nixon Medical Historical Library hosted an Open House and exhibited photos of the collection that were taken by a former UT Health librarian.

Karen Barton, Liaison and Community Engagement Librarian, represented the Library at the YWCA and CPS Health Resource Fair and Family Day on Saturday, April 14, at Sul Ross Middle School. The event had over 65 vendors, who were each tasked with providing a kid-friendly activity at their tables, and more than 100 attendees. There were free health screenings, free groceries provided by HEB, and a range of resources given away. Additionally, over 50 door prizes were raffled, including one (shown in the photo) that was provided by the Libraries. The event was intended to reach kinship care families and was in part funded by a grant received by San Antonio Grandparents Raising Grandchildren (YWCA). Child advocates and community leaders such as Senator Jose Menendez, State Representative Ina Minjarez, and Judge Peter Sakai were also present and spoke during the event.

Thank You to Library Exam-Time Refreshment Sponsors!

While students are hard at work in the Library studying for exams, a number of generous sponsors have been providing refreshments on some evenings. The refreshments give students a chance to take a short break in the Library to re-energize and socialize before getting back to an evening of study.

Monday, April 30th: School of Nursing

Tuesday, May 1st: Student Life

Wednesday, May 2nd: School of Health Professions

Wednesday, May 9th: Graduate Student Association

The Library hopes to continue exam-time refreshments each semester. If you or your school, department or committee are interested in providing a sponsorship, please contact Peg Seger, 210-567-6398, segerp@uthscsa.edu.
