Fifty years ago, the University of Texas Medical School in San Antonio, now known as UT Health San Antonio, was gifted a treasured collection of rare and significant history of medicine books from the Bexar County Medical Society. These books originally belonged to the well-respected San Antonio physician and historian Dr. Pat Ireland Nixon, who founded the Bexar County Medical Library Association in 1919. Through his dedicated efforts the Bexar County Medical Library accumulated a large collection of historical medical texts. Today this distinguished collection is named after Dr. Nixon in honor of his tireless efforts to build it and is housed in the P. I. Nixon Medical Historical Library located on the 5th floor of the Briscoe Library. To learn more about Dr. Pat Ireland Nixon, visit the P.I. Nixon information page.

Stay tuned for more fascinating tidbits as we celebrate 50 years of the P.I. Nixon Medical Historical Library.
