Presenter: Dr. Russel J. Reiter

Title:  A History of Melatonin: Of Swimming Ghosts, Space Exploration, and its Ubiquitous Distribution

Melatonin is a facinating hormone secreted by a tiny endocrine gland located at the center of the brain. This presentation will cover the origins of discovery and the implications of melatonin research.

Dr. Russel J. Reiter is a professor in the Department of Cell Systems and Anatomy at UT Health San Antonio. In addition to his Ph.D., Dr. Reiter has recieived four honorary M.D. degrees and one honorary D.Sc degree from international universities. His research relates to the multiple receptor-independent and receptor-dependent actions of melatonin in humans, animals, and plants.
