EndNote

This is an introduction to getting started with EndNote for UT Health users.

Adding Citations to your Library

  • EndNote is compatible with UT Health San Antonio Library databases so you can easily add citations to EndNote by as you search articles in the databases.
  • Downloading citations to EndNote can vary from one resource to another. Some examples are shown below.
  • Please note, the databases only export the citation information for an article (title, author, date, etc.) and do not automatically attach full text PDFs of the article. See Organizing and Adding Full Text if you want to include the PDFs in EndNote.

Examples for exporting references from PubMed, CINAHL, Scopus, and Google Scholar:

  • For other resources look for a link to export, cite, save, download citation, or other similar wording and choose the RIS option.

To export a single citation in PubMed

  1. Click Cite then Download .nbib

  1. Click the check box next to each article you would like to save.
  2. Click Send to
  3. Click Citation Manager
  4. Choose Selection
  5. Click Create File

To export all results from a PubMed search:

  1. Follow Steps 2 & 3 from above
  2. Choose All results
  3. Click Create File

To export a single citiation from CINAHL:

  1. Click Cite then Export to Bibliographic Management Software

To export multiple citations at once from CINAHL:

  1. Add citations to a folder by clicking the Folder icon beside each reference

  2. Click the Folder icon in the menu bar at the top of the page

  3. Click Select All then Export

  4. Be sure that Direct Export in RIS Formay is checked then click Save

  1. Click Share then E-mail a link to download exported results (up to XXXXX)
  2. Enter your email address and make sure RIS Format is checked then click Send.
  3. Within a few minutes you will receive a .zip file containing the .ris file for EndNote in your email

To export a single citation in Scopus:

  1. Click Export then EndNote (RIS)

To export multiple citations at once from Scopus:

  1. Click the check boxes next to each article you want to export
  2. Click Export
  3. Click EndNote (RIS)
  4. Select the options that you want to download, it is okay to just use the default options
  5. Click Export

To export all results from a Scopus search:Scopus Export Dialog

  3. Click EndNote (RIS)
  4. Select the options that you want to download, it is okay to just use the default options
  5. Click Export

To export a single citation in Google Scholar:

  1. Click Cite then EndNote

  1. Sign In to Google if you are not already
  2. Click the star/Save, choose or create a list if you want
  3. Click My Library
  4. Click Export All
  5. Click Save

Google Scholar does not offer an option to export all results.
