Free tools for finding and understanding scholarly information:
- ASReview - Helps scholars and practitioners get an overview of the most relevant records for their work as efficiently as possible while maintaining transparency in the process.
- Semantic Scholar - AI-driven search and discovery tools; indexes over 200 million academic papers sourced from publisher partnerships, data providers, and web crawls.
- Elicit - Can be used to summarize papers, extract data, and synthesize findings.
- Explainpaper - Intended to make reading research papers easier. Allows users to upload a paper, highlight confusing text, and receive an explanation.
- ResearchRabbit - Scholarly publication discovery tool. Offers visual maps and publications lists to guide users through interconnected research trails (i.e. going down the rabbit hole).
- SciSpace (formerly typeset.io) - Designed to help users understand research papers better by explaining and elaborating most academic texts in simple words.
Other AI Tools:
- ChatGPT - Chatbot developed by OpenAI, based on an LLM. Enables users to refine and steer a conversation toward a desired length, format, style, level of detail, and language. Currently one of the most popular AI tool being used in the general public.
- Copilot - AI-powered chatbot built on GPT-4 from Microsoft; also creates high quality images from text prompts. Chat data is not shared with Microsoft or used to train their AI models.
- Gemini - Conversational chatbot developed by Google, based on LaMDA family of LLMs.
- Grammarly - Ukraine-founded cloud-based writing assistant used to review grammar, spelling, punctuation, clarity, engagement and delivery mistakes in English texts. Can also detect plagiarism and suggest replacements for errors.
- Perplexity AI - Conversation search engine that answers questions using natural language predictive text.
Image Generation Tools
- Adobe Firefly - Generative AI model designed for high quality image generation and editing. Integrated into the Adobe Creative Cloud, allows for text-based editing and generation of various media, including images, videos, and 3D content.
- Copilot - AI-powered chatbot built on GPT-4 from Microsoft; also creates high quality images from text prompts. Chat data is not shared with Microsoft or used to train their AI models.
- DALL-E - AI system, developed by OpenAI, that can create realistic images and art from a description in natural language.
- Midjourney - Visual AI platform offering image generation and editing features, produces high quality realistic images. Paid subscription required.
