Populate your ORCID profile

ORCID add works dialogYou can authorize CrossRef and/or DataCite to automatically update your ORCiD account whenever you publish. These are the two major DOI providing entities for academic publications. Let them do the work for you.

There are several ways to add your works to your ORCID profile.

To begin adding works

  1. Visit orcid.org and login
  2. On your profile page, scroll down to Works
  3. Select + Add then:

  1. Choose one of the available databases
  2. Click Authorize to allow the database to read your ORCID record and add works
  3. The database will use the information from your record to locate works that you may have authored
    • Results can be improved by adding name variations to your ORCID (e.g. Tom Smith, Thomas A. Smith, T. Smith, T.A. Smith, etc.)
  4. Once the search has run, simply select results in the list that are yours and click the Add to ORCID button
  5. Works should now be visible, depending on which privacy settings you have chosen

  1. Enter the DOI of your work
  2. Click Retrieve work details from DOI

  1. Enter the PMID of your work
  2. Click Retrieve work details from PubMed

  2. Add the available citation details for your work
  3. Click Save Changes

  1. Sign in to your ORCID account. Click your name at the top right.
  2. Selected Trusted Individuals and search for ORCID users to add.
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the page
  4. Enter the ORCID iD, email address, or name of the person you are designating.
  5. Click Search
  6. Click Add then, when prompted, click Add again to add the person as a trusted individual.
