References provide the information necessary for readers to identify and retrieve each work cited in the text. It is not the same as a Bibliography.
References vs. Bibliography (what's the difference?)
What to do when you have missing or unknown reference information.
The DOI or URL is the final component of a reference list entry. Because so much scholarship is available and/or retrieved online, most reference list entries end with either a DOI or a URL.
