Interlibrary Loan

What is Interlibrary Loan?

When the library doesn't have access to something you want we will borrow a copy from another library for you. For journal articles or book chapters we will request a PDF copy. For books we will request a physical copy be shipped to us.

ILL staff can also help you find articles or other hard to find information online.

Who can use ILL?

  • Current UT Health SA students, faculty, and staff
  • Clinical Faculty - Must have a current yearly appointment letter on file with the library to make use of ILL

What can I request?

  • Journal articles and book chapters
  • Circulating copies of print materials
  • Items stored off site

We currently cannot fill requests for ebooks or audiovisual materials.


FAQ

How long will it take?

  • Electronic requests are usually filled within 1-5 days
  • Print materials can take anywhere between 1-2 weeks to arrive, depending on shipping distance.

How much does it cost?

  • Requests are free, except in rare cases when copyright fees may apply.

How do I access my account?

How will I be notified?

  • You'll receive an email when your request has been filled. Electronic items are delivered directly to your ILL account. 

Where do I pick up my book loan?

  • We will contact you when your book is ready. Loans can be picked up from library staff Monday-Friday, 8 am - 5 pm.

Where do I return my book loan?

  • Book loans can be return to library staff Monday-Friday, 8 am - 5 pm or 24/7 in the library's book drop, located out front of the building facing the parking lot

Do you know of a book or journal you think would benefit our collection in the long run? Use the Resource Suggestion form to request the purchase of a book, journal, or other item for our collection. We make every effort to fill purchase requests, but cannot guarantee that funding will be available.

If you do not want to wait for Interlibrary Loan, you may prefer to visit another library in the area.
